Obituary

Jane Classen (Petersen) of Port Franks passed away peacefully at South Huron Hospital on Saturday, January 5th, 2019 in her 74th year. Born in South Africa, the devoted and loyal wife of Robert Classen for over 50 years, Jane found her greatest pride and joy in her family. She left a legacy in her children, Roberta Classen & Ed (Hamlyn), Trevor & Andrea Classen and Sara-Jane Classen, and Jane was able to celebrate and watch her grandchildren Jewel, Sam, Emberlee, Ethan, Ivy, Braylen and Ashton grow. Jane was treasured by her siblings Mark, his wife Ursula Petersen, Fareed Khan and many friends and extended family.

A content and humble woman who loved to sing and be involved in her community. Jane’s youth was marked by her athletic skills, and she was always a huge Blue Jays fan. Years later, Jane spent every morning walking the beach with her husband, collecting rocks and sea glass. A solid rock capsulized Jane’s life, not only did she see the beauty in the unique stones collected in locations along the roads, or farmer’s fields, later she would decorate their home and gardens with their treasures.

The matriarch of the family, Jane was full of character and endless stories as a quiet charitable woman, making sure items went to where they were needed. Jane took pride in a hard days work, loved a good cup of tea and was a motherly mentor to many as she cut loose with her goofy and fun loving spirit. Jane cannot be described without talking about food. The loved and coveted chef at MacPherson’s Resturant, Jane did not know how to cook a small meal and no one could leave her home or work place feeling hungry.

Family and friends of Jane continue to Celebrate Jane's Life. A life of loving, adventures, strength and courage. Please join us as we celebrate the life and quiet faith of Jane on Saturday, January 19th at 11am with Rev. Dr. Christine O'Reilly officiating at Knox Presbyterian Church, 182 Main Street in Thedford. Donations are gratefully appreciated to the Contact House Food Bank, the Salvation Army or the Thedford Knox Presbyterian Church Benevolent Fund.

Dearest Robert, Roberta, Trevor, Sara-Jane and families. Our heart aches for you all. We are so sorry for your loss, nothing we can say will make your pain go away but please know that we are thinking of you all at this very difficult time. Accept our deepest sympathy and prayers. We do not know or understand ‘why’ such a fine, wonderful woman, wife, mom, sister and friend such as Jane should be taken at the prime of her life, after fighting so bravely. But hold onto her love and her memory and live positive, powerful lives as she did. Be assured of love through this very difficult grieving period and call on us at any time. Your brother and uncle Mark, Ursula, Natasha, Terence and Josh xxx

My deepest condolences at this time of tremendous loss. As I remember so many wonderful times spent with my Auntie Janie I also recall this overall feeling of joyousness, togetherness and love. It was my great pleasure to be greeted with a jumping, laughing squeeze of a hug from her many times. Her smile and that laugh I'll think of fondly. She had a unique way of speaking that I loved. I am grateful for the memories. So many of them but I wish we made more. I love you so much and I'll miss you terribly. Sleep in peace, Auntie. I'll see you again.

A contagious smile, a contagious laugh and a contagious energy. Thinking of my auntie Janie always brings a smile to my face and a rush of fond memories. I will always remember her warmth and her incredible selflessness. Trips to her house and trips with her to the beach will always be some of my favorite childhood memories. Too many memories escape me, but she filled my entire family with a happy energy that will be missed. I love you and will miss you auntie. I’ll see you again.
